developed and developing in one nation...

In class on Friday we learned about Economic Geography.

1) I want you to research GDP versus GNP in America and post what you find. How are these two figures different? Is there a country that has an even GNP and GDP?

2) Do a little more research and find the country with the highest per capita income. Is it surprising? What is this country known for and why do you think they have the highest per capita income?

3) Check out this video about Native Americans in the USA. How does this help us better understand the complexities of a nation?

1) GDP of US: $45,800; GNP: $13.78 trillion. GDP is the average income of a citizen per year, and GNP is the average income of the entire nation.
2) The country with the highest GDP is Qatar, with about 86,000 international dollars, which is an estimate unit of currency that would have the same value the US dollar had at a certain time. I'm really not surprised because Qatar, like most other Middle Eastern countries, has access to tons of petroleum, which is incredibly profitable, and the government is able to get a lot of money through the trade of petroleum.
3) It is difficult to keep everyone in a nation satisfied, but governments often neglect their duty to make their best efforts to change societies beneficially, or misplace their priorities.

DJ:

my father suggested i'd use the World Bank or the World Finance Group as my source but both were difficult to use so i went to wikipedia :)
US GDP: 13,811,200
US GNP: 44,900
#1 Lux GNP: 76,000
#1 US GDP: 13,811,200

I highly doubt this data is accurate though (Wikipedia...I dont completely trust the CIA world fact book either)
CIA World FActbook:

US GDP: $ 45,800
#1 Qat: $ 87,600

hmmm, not too long ago the Netherlands were 10th and the US waa like 25th with GDP per capita, now were only 17th!

Its not accurate to rate a country with these rates because they all behave so differently. In the Netherlands you can say that we pay very very high taxes, but in return school is for free, every Dutch citizen gets a government Scholarship, Hospitals are really cheap, public transportation is often free, all porducts are subsidised by the government (making everything alot cheaper), when people become unemployed the government gives them a large sum of money every month so that they can keep their house and so they are able to pay the bills and buy food while the government helps them find a new job. and lots and lots more... By this the people dont earn as much as they may, like in the US, but hereby they wont run and risk into losing everything or alot. We are hereby the most satisfied nation in the world, research has shown, but now people are really mad that the government is following the US (due to treaties and pacts made) into war and also, alot of succesful Dutch companies (Shell, Heineken, Phillips, ect...) are being sold to other countries :(. We used to be the greatest bankers of the world! what happend?! (ING insurances, ABN Amro)!? this is what we rely on since we dont have alot of natural resources in our puny piece of land (5 by 5 :P). Stop wasting our money on WAR, spend on training succesful diplomats to solve problems with other nations!! Hurah for socialism, government help the people!! I will write more once the World Bank website is working properly again... till tomorrow!

The GDP of the US is 13,811,200 and its GNP is 46,040. The GNP is much lower than the GDP, which makes sense. I do not think there is a country with an even GDP and GNP.
The country with the highest per capita income is Qatar. This both does and doesn't surprise me. I would not have thought of Qatar because it is a country you do not hear of very much, and it is not neccesarily associated with having a powerful economy. It does not surprise me, because it is a middle eastern country, and because there is a lot of oil there, it makes sense that is has the highest per capita income.
This video helps us understand the complexities of a nation through cultural differences that lead to poverty. The Lakota Sioux that live on the reservation live in their own community, and do not mingle much with the rest of America. This is so they can preserve their culture. But closing themselves off has its problems, like poverty, and this impacts the whole nation. It is also something that the government needs to address, but focusing their efforts on one group will cause others to be unhappy, which may lead to all kinds of other problems.

The GDP per capita of the US is $45,800. The GNP per capita is $14,289.00 billion. The country with the highest GDP per capita is Qatar: $87,600. This not suprising because like what Yongnak said most middle eastern countries are rich because of their petroleum.

This video helps us understand that it difficult to keep a nation going. It is almost impossible to keep everyone satisfied. It is true though that sometimes the government fogets about some people and concentrate only on the people they think to be more important. But sometimes people don't want to be helped and want to be separated from the rest of the country. In this case i think it both the people and the governments fault. Because the government could help the Natives Americans a lot more, but the Natives American chose to be seperated from the rest of America.

2)#1 african country is Equatorial Guinea – GDP per capita: $ 50,200
Africa’s wealthiest country is Equatorial Guinea by a long mile. It also happens to been the second wealthiest nation in the World, second only to Luxembourg, which had a GDP per capita of $55, 600 in 2005. Equatorial Guinea experienced rapid economic growth since the discovery of large offshore oil reserves, and within the last decade has risen to become third largest oil exporter in Sub-Saharan Africa. Despite its high GDP per capita, majority of the population still live in sub standard conditions

The US economy is the largest national economy in the world, with an estimated 2008 gross domestic product (GDP)of US$ 14.3 trillion(over 25% of the world total based on nominal GDP and almost 21% by purchasing power parity). The GNP of US is $45.821.But I don't think that there is a country with an even GDP and GNP.
The country with the highest GDP is Ouatar. No wonder, it is one of the middle eastern countries and has a lot of oil. But I have to say 've never heard about that country I actually didnt even know that it country exists.
The video helps to understand the complexities because it shows the different kinds of people in one society and their different problems. I think it is not possible to keep everyone satisfied but the govrnments are working to improve the miserable states in reservations like in the video. The problem is that they are excluded from the society and alcohol problems and violence develop fast.

1) The GDP of the United States of America is $13.78 trillion. The GNP is $6,737 billion. GDP is the total price of all products and services made in a country in one year, and GNP is the price of all products and services made in a country in one year plus money earned by its citizens abroad, minus income earned by foreigners.

2) The country with the highest per capita income is Qatar. I don't really know about Qatar very much, but I figure since it has a population of 907,229, there is more cash money to go around to people. I don't know what Qatar is known for, having a sick flag?

3) This video helps us understand that there will always be poor people in a nation, and that the nation can't always cater to everyone. Like if Barack Obama becomes president, he will probably not taz the middle-class highly, but he will tax the rich greatly.

The GDP of the United Sates is $45,800 and the GNP is $13.78 trillion. The GDP is the average income of a citizen per year. The GNP is the average income of the entire country/nation.

Qatar has the highest GDP, it is about 86,000 inter dollars. Not really surprising, a lot of Middle Eastern countries have petroleum and this play a huge role.

The video shows us how difficult it is to satisfied everyone in a nation, which I think is impossible

1) US GDP: $46k; GNP $1300m. GDP= Average yearly income. GNP = Nations overall income.

2)COuntry With Highest GDP = Qatar with $86k. Im not surprised because Qatar is known for massive oil reserves.

3) The video shows pretty well how you can' keep everyone in the position they want forever, and keeping them satisfied is even harder, like Yong-Nak said though: neglecting the government's duty to the people is common.

US GNP: 13.8 Trillion US$
Qatar happens to be the nation with the highest GDP. At first i was suprised because its a country that i never really hear about, but when i thought about it, it made sense. this country is in the middle east and like yongnak said there is plenty of petroleum making it really easy for the population to find jobs with high income.
The video gives an insight on how the native american have a lifestyle of those in developing country. This is sad but not hard to explain, as tara said the lakota sioux cut themselves away from the rest of the US to preserve their culture and beliefs, however but drawing back in this way, their restrain themselves from trading with big companies that are usualy the reason for the success of towns and cities. I think that the reservation leaders should hold conferences with government official to find a way to get them out of these situations

1.GDP (purchasing power parity): $13.78 trillion (2007 est.)
GDP (official exchange rate): $13.84 trillion (2007 est.)
GDP - real growth rate: 2% (2007 est.)
GDP - per capita (PPP): $45,800 (2007 est.)
GDP - composition by sector: agriculture: 1.2%
industry: 19.8%
services: 79% (2007 est.)
2. country with highest GDP;Quatar. when i think about it i am not surprised. at first i thought thatit might be the states but the i remembered that our currency isn tied to a relaible resource. qutar however has oil reserves which would definately hep in bringing up the countties GDP.
3. this video shows that ther is no such thing as aperfect goverment. you can never satisfy everyone. you can only really aim for the ast majority and hope that the minority will be compliant.

1)Recent polls andd statistics have stated that USA's GPD is $14.334 trillion and $47.025 per capita and (not copying Yong-nak, haha) $13.78 trillion GNP. The per capita is the amount of income a person has/year. GNP is the whole lotta money.

2)The country that has the higher per capita is Qatar with around 85000 per capita (ppp whatever that means) and 78000 (nominal). For me it is not at all suprising because of the fact that the country is small, hence the per capita is not accurate and it is increased by billionare old fascist sultans who get their money from the black gold: petroleum.

3)As an ex-member of the Socialist Youth (they kicked me out), I must, I must write an anti-American conclusion.

This is the unknown reality of the eversinking capitalist structure (which Obama is going to change supposedly). Companies don't give a f### if people are dying out there. Profits and greed invade their greedy minds. Bush, that demon (as Chavez said), has entered Irak spending billions of dollars which should have been given to the most needy, in a war that is 'easy to start but difficult to end'(as the communist leader of Spain said). The saddest thing about this is that whatever president is chosen, Obama or McCain, Democrat or Republican, is going to keep on spending it, all because of petroleum-seeking Bush. It is incredibly sad that native people, contagiated by the 'American Dream' (whatever that means) and desperate because of their 'want but can't afford it' constant thought, consider themselves as lower classed humans and kill themselves.

Capitalism drives wealth from the poor to the rich and creates a chain reaction making people want to buy things for the sole purpose of material confort. This superficialism must, must disappear or poverty will bring hapiness to a fixed group but unhappiness to the other (94 percent of USA's population).

VIVE LE SOCIALISM! (although I've been kicked out) and don't be proud of being American,or from any nationality. All countries SUCK!
