People, places...ugly faces?

Yo gang,

Chapter 4 is all about how cultures arise from the places where they live. First of all, for Tuesday I want yous guys to read chapter 4, section 2. Also, please please please please please take some time over the weekend to review your notes, the sections, your returned quizzes.

Remember: if you fail to prepare you prepare to fail. Your unit exam will be a doozy and you should begin to study leegi leegi. It will be the week of October 12 - for shizzle.

Also, answer the following questions on loose-leaf paper that pertain to the notes you took in class on Thursday:

1. What factors make up culture? Which do you think is most significant when we define cultures?

2. Discuss how languages are spread. Which languages do you speak and which do you hope to learn? Why?

3. How do religions typically spread? Which of the main religions has spread the least/most? Why do you think that is?

Next, check out this article on the earthquake that recently hit Indonesia. This is a natural disaster and devastating to the people of this region. What scientific details does the author include that we have been studying in this class? Post a comment about this event.

Guess what - people in Indonesia listen to hip hop too...

Here are the notes posted on chapter 4, section 1

I found the article very shocking and found it sad that all this people were suffering so much and to have all those things such as two earthquakes and a tsunami in such a small time period and I found that it was very shocking is the fact that they had pilled people newt to that hospital well I didn’t know if they could do anything about, at least dig a grave for them of lei them side by side not just in a pile. It but I found it very sad that all this had happened and the article was by

Peter Gelling reported from Padang, and Mark McDonald from Hong Kong. Reporting was contributed by Norimitsu Onishi from Jakarta, Indonesia; Brian Knowlton from Washington; Meraiah Foley from Sydney, Australia; Liz Robbins from New York; and Andrew C. Revkin from New York.

this article states that one of the earthquakes was registered as an earthquake at a 7.6-magnitude on the richard scale. In class previously we talked about the richard scale. Other than that this article is very interesting, but on the same line its really sad. The fact that they got two earthquake with two days in between each is disastrous. the fact that they couldn't even get tractors to help people get out is just unfortunate and sad. The fact that Obama is going to help them get out of this situation is a good thing. i really hope things get better in the following days.

Yoooo

Well ,the article was sad. As Mr.Yudi pointed out in the begining, that not everyone that was even warned made it out in time. Ithink this is tragic, that 2 such destructive earth quakes could happen in 48 hours. Amd let's not forget that there was also a tsunami :O . I think that this many natural disaster in such a small amount of time , is hard to deal with.

The other problem, was helping the people. They stated that they couldn't even get people out the rubble, because it was so hard to find a tractor. The hospital was damaged as well, and so the equipement and doctors was lacking to assist the people , leavign many others to die.

Luckily, Obama announced that The USA will be with Indonessia 100% to help with these disasters, and to help the people still there.

I think that having two natural diasters happening one after the other can really damaging both physically and mentaly. Psyically because they might have lost their houses or are severly injured. When something like this happened to you it's like if a part of your life just collapsed. I really hope that they will get help so they can restore their country. Karim

i found this article very moving and i found it shocking that some people didnt seem to care much about their friend being traped in a crushed building. it was also very unfortunate that the country was hit twice by relatively bad earthquakes in such a short period of time.
like davide said this relates to when we studied natural disasters and the richard scale.

These earthquakes have devastated many people. Their whole lives being destroyed. If they survive with minor injuries, they will have all the memories of their lives before this shocking time.

It really is sad to know that there weren't any tractors or anything to help them out of the rubble. Imagine, if there were tractors there on time, many lives would have been saved.

The author said that the first earthquake was about 7.6 on the richter scale, and the second earthquake was about 6.6.

The earthquake that recently hit Indonesia caused alot of damage both physically and mentally to the citizens in Padang.
Scientific details that the author included in the article are the Five themes of geography but three were mentioned:location, place, and the region. We were told about the placement of Padang.Internal forces shaping the earth was also something we have been studying in class such as earthquakes and their epicenter, volcanoes and the ring of fire.Padangs position is a danger for anyone living there as it is considered a "neighbor" to natural disasters.

This article was very sad to read!

It's really sad to know that a lot of people died on those 2 strong earthquakes in two days ( the first one at 7.6 magnitude on the richard scale, and the 2nd one 6.6 magnitude), and there were no tractors available to move the rubble, also people couldnt do anything to save themselves.
It's shocking to read that a lot of families were desperate about their missing family members, reading lists of the dead people posted at the hospitals.

It's good to know that Obama will help them in this time, but for sure he cant undo whats already done.
